[Bathroom Reading] Seahawks Roost in San Diego; Pick Up First Road Win
In what is the Seahawks second subpar offensive performance of the two week long season, Seattle somehow managed to pulled its first win out in the final minute of the 4th quarter in San Diego. During the game Marshawn Lynch was held to under 100 yards and only 1 touchdown by the fast, furious, and hungry San Diego defensive unit. Russell Wilson was held to under 200 yards passing, but was able to engineer the go ahead scoring play by throwing a 16 yard touchdown pass to Zach Miller with 1:17 on the clock making the game 21-20.
Unlike last week when neither side of the football showed up, Seattle's defense played excellent and was able to keep the anemic offense in the game which ultimately led to the late game opportunity duly capitalized on. To wrap everything all up the Seahawks secondary got an interception which was returned for a touchdown off an Phillip Rivers pass with 30 seconds left in the game to end the comeback drive of the Chargers and stick the final dagger into the heart of the enemy.
Head Coach Pete Carroll had this to said in his post-game press conference: "We are happy to get our first win of the season on the road against a tough football team with the strength of our defense leading the way. Even with this win, we have work still to do on offense, particularly in regards to our running game. Running the ball is the heart of our offense and to this point we're simply not getting it done. Obviously the same goes for the passing game. We'll take the final score with the touchdown catch by Zach but we need to build on that momentum and improve. I trust in the intelligence, work ethic and ability of Russell Wilson and the rest of our team. I as the team's coach take full responsibility for the offense being out of sync. In addition to the team needing to improve, the play calling has to improve as well. We have to put our offensive playmakers in better situations to make plays."
